Northern California golf and the NCGA lost a great friend in December with the unexpected passing of former NCGA CEO Lyn Nelson at the age of 63.
During her tenure as CEO (2008-2013), Nelson oversaw the 2014 renovation of Poppy Hills Golf Course, which was hailed as the Renovation of the Year by Golf Magazine and Golf Digest. She also served as vice-president for the California Golf Alliance and various USGA committees.
A huge golf fan, Nelson was also instrumental in the creation of the NCGA Hall of Fame and continued success of Youth on Course.
“Lyn throughout her career worked to promote the game of golf and leave it in a better place,” said NCGA CEO Joe Huston. “She leaves many great accomplishments at the NCGA, most notably her efforts that resulted in the 2014 renovation of Poppy Hills.”
Prior to her arrival at the NCGA, Nelson, a San Jose State grad, was general manager and director of golf at Half Moon Bay Golf Links. Her responsibilities there included the 36-hole layout, merchandise, food and beverage, maintenance and marketing.
Nelson most recently was director of golf development and golf property manager for the San Francisco City and County Parks and Recreation Department.
The NCGA thanks Lyn for her service to the game and countless contributions to players of all ages and abilities. She will be missed.
